Most people would know that avocados are good for health but do you know that it can also be used as a replacement for butter in baking? Avocados are commonly found in salads, juices and milkshakes but sometimes they can be found in cakes too!
Being a health food, avocados are packed with lots of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. Although avocado is known to contain fats, these fats are good for health as they are heart-healthy mono-saturated fat that can lower LDL (bad cholesterol) and maintain HDL (good cholesterol) in the body. Another plus point is that avocadoes help to REDUCE BELLY FAT 😉 When avocados are used in replacement of butter, it helps to reduce your calorie intake by cutting down on unhealthy calories.
Let’s go straight to how you can start reducing your calorie intake today by eating avocados 🙂
1. Replacement for butter
Using avocado instead of butter would make the baked goods softer and chewier. You could do a 1:1 replacement but reduce the temperature by 25 degree Celsius and increase your baking time. This prevents the cake from browning too quickly and also from puffing up.
Alternatively, I prefer to just reduce the butter by half the portion as avocado does not bind the dry ingredients together. If you want to replace all the butter with avocado, increase the portion of wet ingredients. Mash the avocados up really well for a smooth mixture.
2. Replacement for sour cream
Instead of using sour cream and chives for potatoes, mash up avocado instead and mix it with chives.
3. Replacement for cream cheese
Replace cream cheese with avocado when eating toast.
